Pipette with lavender, baby care on a scientific basis

What sensitive baby skin really needs

Dermatologist-developed, recommended by midwives, radically fragrance-free, because baby skin is more than just a smaller version of our own.

Discover care for sensitive skin

Baby skin is up to five times more permeable than that of an adult

In the first months of life, a baby's skin barrier is not yet fully developed. The acid mantle is missing, the corneal layer is thinner, and care substances pass through more easily, just as irritants do. What goes unnoticed on adult skin can quickly lead to dryness, redness or irritation in a Frischling.

This is exactly where vujo comes in. Our scientific advisory board, Prof. Dr Rolf-Markus Szeimies (dermatology) and Carola Claudia Lehmann, is involved in every formulation. The result: consistently fragrance-free, alcohol-free natural cosmetics that give sensitive baby skin what it needs and nothing that could irritate it.

“With infants, less is more. Every additional substance is a potential irritant. That is why at vujo we work with the smallest possible number of carefully chosen ingredients.” Prof. Dr Szeimies

Frequently asked questions about baby skin

When should I start applying cream to my baby?

Healthy baby skin generally does not need a daily cream in the first weeks, it regulates itself. For dry patches, after a bath or in harsh weather, a drop of fragrance-free baby oil or a mild cream is helpful. The principle is: as little as possible, as much as needed.

Why is fragrance in baby care problematic?

Fragrances are among the most common allergy triggers in cosmetics. The EU obliges manufacturers to declare 26 particularly relevant fragrance allergens individually. With a still immature skin barrier, these substances penetrate the tissue more easily. That is why vujo is consistently fragrance-free, with no exceptions, not even with so-called “natural” fragrances.

My baby has dry, flaky skin. What helps?

Dry baby skin responds especially well to replenishing care. A bath with a few drops of baby oil, followed by a fragrance-free body lotion on slightly damp skin, locks moisture in. If dryness or redness persists for more than a few days or itchy patches appear, talk to your midwife or paediatrician, as this can be an early sign of atopic skin.

How often should I bathe my baby?

Two to three times a week is plenty. Bathing too often with wash additives dries out already sensitive baby skin even more. Between baths, it is enough to clean the face, hands and nappy area with lukewarm water.

Is vujo also suitable for atopic dermatitis?

vujo Frischling is dermatologically tested and rated “very good” by Dermatest. The products are free from fragrance, alcohol, parabens and substances that trigger allergies, so they are also suitable for sensitive babies and those prone to atopic skin. With diagnosed atopic dermatitis, the care routine should always be agreed with the treating doctor.

Is olive oil a sensible alternative for baby skin?

Recent studies advise against olive oil on baby skin: the oleic acid it contains can make the skin barrier even more permeable. Refined almond and sunflower oils are more suitable, they are gentler and support the skin's natural protective function.
